Photography Makeup Is Not Everyday Makeup
A camera flattens, sharpens and exaggerates in specific ways. What I have learned about the difference between a face made for a lens and a face made for a room.

The first time I saw shoot images beside the mirror I remembered, I barely recognised the relationship between the two. A camera is not a mirror. It flattens depth, sharpens texture and exaggerates anything shiny.
These are personal observations from my own shoots, not professional instruction.
Flash finds every particle
Heavy powder that looks matte in a room can photograph as a pale cast with flash. I now use far less powder for photography and let the base sit slightly more luminous than I would in daily life.
The camera erases dimension
Faces go flat on film, so contour and blush do more work in a photograph than they do in a room. That is the opposite of the usual advice to keep everything soft and natural, and it is why shoot makeup often looks startling in person.
Makeup for a lens is designed for one moment. Makeup for a day is designed to survive one.
Skin preparation outperforms product
Nothing I apply competes with skin that is genuinely hydrated and calm. On shoot mornings I keep the routine boring and familiar, because a shoot day is the worst possible time to try a new product on your face.
Everyday is a different brief
On teaching days I want to look like myself at a distance of two metres for nine hours. That means less of everything, a base that breathes, and colour I can reapply in thirty seconds between classes.
What I ask a makeup artist
Two questions have saved me repeatedly: what will this look like under flash, and how will it behave after three hours. A good artist has an immediate answer to both.

Hair for a Saree: What Actually Holds
A saree changes what your hair has to do. Weight on one shoulder, a pallu that moves, and long hours of humidity. What survives, in my experience.
